Mauritius - Restaurants

There is a small supermarket in Pointe aux Piments and numerous snack vendors. Most of the hotels in this area have restaurants which are open to non-residents.

X La Table du Château Château de Labourdonnais, Mapou; % 266 9533; ( 09.00–17.00, Sat dinner. Cuisine: Creole, French. A clean, modern restaurant & tea room in the grounds of the mansion, with views of the impressive chateau built in 1859. Nicely presented dishes, many of which use fruit from the orchard. $$$

X Le Fangourin L’Aventure du Sucre, Beau Plan; % 243 7900; ( 09.00–17.00 daily. Cuisine: Creole, French. Set in the grounds of the old Beau Plan sugar factory, which now houses a sugar museum. Dining is indoors or outdoors, overlooking  attractive gardens &, in the distance, Pieter Both mountain. The menu is diverse & sophisticated with seafood, meat & vegetarian dishes as well as light snacks. Meals are beautifully presented, as well as in any fine-dining restaurant. The fabulous desserts are made with special, unrefined sugar from the estate. The dark chocolate fondant gateau with vanilla ice cream is incredible. $$$

X Mona Lisa Port Chambly Village, Terre Rouge; % 405 3000; ( for lunch & dinner daily. Cuisine: Italian. Within the Port Chambly apartment & hotel complex, dining is indoors or on a terrace overlooking the estuary, It has a real Italian piazza feel. Substantial main courses are priced from Rs450 but pizza & pasta dishes start at around Rs280. $$$

X Café Valse de Vienne Powder Mill Rd, Pamplemousses; % 243 0560; ( 09.00–20.00 daily. Cuisine: Austrian, German. Near the main entrance to the gardens, opposite the Church of St François. Has a pleasant atmosphere & serves excellent pastries. $$

X Le Brisant Resto Coastal Rd, Pointe aux Piments; % 261 5923; ( for lunch & dinner daily. Cuisine: Creole, seafood. A great little restaurant next to the aquarium. There is no shortage of rustic charm – tables are on a covered terrace with a floor of waste coral, lampshades made from woven pandanus hats & a bar made from old oil drums. The owner works with local fishermen to get the best seafood. Grilled lobster is a speciality & the crispy calamari is very tasty. Wi-Fi is free. $$

X Villas Mon Plaisir Coastal Rd, Pointe aux Piments; % 261 7471; ( for lunch & dinner daily. Cuisine: Creole, Chinese. Unpretentious restaurant with views of the ocean. Good value for money. $$
