Réunion offers superb opportunities for the amateur photographer, in particular its stunning landscapes. It is courteous to ask people before taking their photo and it is particularly important to do so when you visit the island’s interior, where people are less accustomed to the eccentricities of tourists. Film, digital memory cards and developing are readily available but tend to cost more than in Europe.

Local newspapers and magazines are in French. You may be able to find international newspapers on sale in St-Denis’s larger bookshops. The island’s main newspapers are Le Quotidien (lequotidien.re) and Le Journal de l’Ile de la Réunion (clicanoo.re). Both offer free classified advertising on certain days of the week.

Télé 7, Télé Mag and Visu all have weekly television and radio guides. There are two state television channels run by Réseau France Outre-Mer, RFO1 and RFO2, which include programmes from France. Independent channels are Antenne Réunion, Canal Réunion, TV4 Réunion and TV Sud. Almost all programmes are in French but RFO1 broadcasts the news in Creole at 12.30 on Saturdays.

There are two RFO state radio stations, plus numerous others, such as Kreol FM and Radio Arc-en-Ciel.
