Mauritius - Beaches

Beaches Aside from Ile aux Cocos and Ile aux Chats, the best beaches on Rodrigues itself are on the east coast at Pointe Coton, Mourouk and around St François.

The coastline between St François and Graviers is dotted with beaches, which are usually deserted. There are no roads in this part of the island and a walk along this coast is perfect for those in search of solitude, privacy and relaxation. To walk from St François to Graviers takes around three hours. You will need sturdy shoes: it is hilly in parts and involves some clambering over rocks.

You can get to the long, unspoilt beach of St François by bus or car, from where a 30-minute walk through the casuarina trees will take you to the small scallop-shaped cove of Trou d’Argent (‘Silver hole’). This scallop-shaped beach sheltered on either side by black rock appears in just about all the island’s tourism marketing material. The path continues south of Trou d’Argent to another beautiful cove, Anse Bouteille, which, as its name suggests, is in the shape of a bottle. This coast can be windy and the sea is often rough but the sheltered Trou d’Argent and Anse Bouteille are usually calm enough for swimming.
